The first subject I had to work with this week was the Nobile Dendrobium. Here is an image of the plant in its entirety:
The challenge with this (and most) orchids is that the blooms tend to be clustered together in a way that looks quite busy, especially in black and white. It often takes some judicious pruning to come up with an arrangement that works. I like to include stems, buds or leaves in my images when at all possible, as I think it can make for a more interesting composition. I got lucky with this specimen and was able to include all three:
