The third orchid specimen I had to work with over the last couple weeks was this impressive Brassidium specimen:
A guy at the orchid shop once told me the flowers look like “little dancing men with engorged testicles.” I didn’t know how to respond to that peculiar comparison, so I told him to get back on his meds and promptly left the store.
The long thin petals (not the ‘testicles’) are what I find most aesthetically pleasing about this specimen, so I hoped to find a composition that showed them off. This is what I came up with:
Now that I’m finished with this batch it’s time to find some new subjects. Nothing in the greenhouse is blooming yet, so I’ll try my luck at the nurseries. In the meantime I’ll be working on my portrait project, “Junior.” Here is a recent shot that I’m quite happy with:
